Who we are

Education Empowerment for Rural and Urban Slums Initiative (EERUi) is a nonprofit social impact organization based in Kenya, dedicated to transforming the educational journey of children in low-income communities. We support parents, caregivers, and educators to create nurturing, inclusive, and sustainable learning environments where all children can thrive.

What We Do?

EERUi strengthens early learning and foundational education for children who are most at risk of being left behind—before they enter school, while they are in school, and when they have dropped out altogether.

We work with informal and home-based childcare providers to improve nurturing care, early stimulation, and school readiness for young children. We also engage parents through community-based sessions that build responsive caregiving practices at home.

For older children who are already in school but falling behind—or who have dropped out, we deliver targeted catch-up programs in foundational literacy and numeracy, using joyful, sport-based activities to create safe, collaborative, and motivating learning environments, paired with structured support for re-enrolment and sustained attendance.

Across our work, we integrate environmental stewardship and sustainability into learning by promoting locally grounded practices and materials, ensuring education not only improves individual outcomes but strengthens community resilience over time.

How we do it ?

At the heart of EERUi’s model is collaboration with stakeholders. We listen deeply to the voices and aspirations of those we serve and co-design solutions that reflect local realities while drawing on global frameworks. We strengthen capacity and leadership through hands-on workshops, peer learning circles, and mentorship, empowering community champions to lead sustainable change. Our approach is practical, scalable, and rooted in local innovation, using reusable materials, adaptable tools, and inclusive practices that grow with each community. Through strong partnerships, ongoing reflection, and evidence-based advocacy, we ensure our work not only meets immediate needs but also drives long-term transformation across Kenya’s early childhood and education landscape.
